Pattaya - the largest beach resort in Asia - has so many attractions to offer that one page is just not enough to describe them all. Pattaya was once a fishing village, but it is now impressive for its variety of entertainment activities, ranging from amusement parks to movie theatres to cabaret shows that are worth a visit.
Mini-Siam
This theme park, in which you can see the cultural heritage of Thailand on a scale of 1:25, is located at the northern end of the city. It also includes some other world-famous buildings in miniaturized version. The park spans an area of about 4.6 hectares and is open daily from 7am to 10pm. The entry fee is about 15 Euros.
The Sanctuary of Truth
A huge teak wood building in the Naklua bay with thousands of carved sculptures (angels, animals, demons, gods). For more than 20 years craftsmen have been working on this monument 100 metres long and 100 metres high. It represents Far Eastern mythologies as well as the connection of human life with the cosmos.
The Floating Market
The Floating Market of Pattaya is located the Sukhumvit Road, which leads southwards out of Pattaya. It is very touristic, but allows for a good insight into the ancient lifestyle of the local people. The complex is south of Pattaya, on the left-hand side of the road and is easy to find because the last half-kilometre is well signposted.
Pattaya Water Park
The Pattaya Water Park is located between Pattaya and Jomtien. It offers several water slides, Jacuzzi whirlpools and a huge swimming pool and it has direct access to the Sea. The centrally located tower features on the top an observation deck and revolving restaurants with a great view over Pattaya and its environs. For an especially thrilling ride, you can glide down a steel rope from the 180 meters-high tower to the ground. There is also a cable car. Neither of these activities is recommended to people who suffer from vertigo!
Elephant Village
The Elephant Village mainly serves as a retreat and sanctuary for old and sick elephants that can no longer be used for the hard work that they usually have to do in this region. Here they are cared for and given medical attention. However, this aim has been combined with the idea of offering tourists some kind of “Edutainment”. On the one hand, visitors can learn about the training, the life, and the importance of working elephants to the people in this region, and on the other they are entertained by performances such as football-playing elephants and the elephant parade. The shows are presented in English and Thai, and it is possible to take part in a longer Jungle Tour on the elephants (elephant trekking).
The Million Years Stone Park
The Million Years Stone Park, which includes the Crocodile Farm and a zoo, is a huge complex of several gardens with exotic flowers, 200-year-old bonsai trees, rockeries, fountains and fossils. The park is located about 20 minutes outside of Pattaya. The rocks that give this park its name were brought from the province of Kanchanaburi.
Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum
Visit this museum, 1000 square metres in size, where you can experience humans, animals and objects in grotesque situations. The museum is based on a cartoon series of the same name that appeared in newspapers world-wide.
Nong-Nooch Orchid Wonderland
This park with its beautifully landscaped botanical garden of domestic flora features hundreds of species of orchids, ferns and exotic flowers. There are daily shows of traditional dancing and martial arts and a comic show with elephants as actors.
Underwater World
This attraction is a must-see for tourists who want to enjoy more than Pattaya's night life. It is a modern saltwater aquarium with a 100 meters long tunnel below it. The aquarium contains more than 4,000 examples of marine life, including rare species from all over the world. It is open daily from 9am to 6pm, and tickets are available until 5:30pm. The entry fee is 450 baht for adults and 250 baht for children.
